What’s Cumbia Anyway?

Cumbia is a traditional Latin American rhythm that originated in Colombia during the 19th century. Initially, it was played by African slaves who fused their musical traditions with indigenous Colombian sounds and Spanish influences. Picture flutes (gaitas), drums (tamboras), and maracas creating an upbeat atmosphere for dance.

As cumbia traveled across Latin America, different regions added their own spice to the mix—think accordion riffs from Mexico or psychedelic flavors in Argentina. Ultimately, it became one groovy force spreading joy on dance floors everywhere!

Enter Dub: The Sound of Echoes

Now let’s flip over to dub music—a subgenre of reggae that emerged from Jamaica in the late 1960s. It takes those sweet reggae beats and adds layers upon layers of reverb, delay effects, and studio wizardry to create an atmospheric experience. Engineers like King Tubby transformed tracks into something entirely new by remixing them live at parties.

Dub is not just about listening; it’s about feeling! Those heavy basslines resonate through your bones while echoes swirl around you like wispy ghosts on stage.
